Blog #3 | July 2020 Update

Hello everyone! I just wanted to write a quick update on the Phoenix’s development as of July 2020.

In terms of progress, for the last three weeks I’ve been working hard to finalize the design for the modules. I want to make sure they’re perfect come time for production. The good news is, I’ve made significant progress over the last month. While I’m not quite ready to publicize this part of the process yet, you can rest assured that a major update should be coming relatively soon.

Last month, I sent out an email laying out a general timeline for the completion of the guitar, and as I mentioned there, perfecting the modular assembly is likely going to be the most time consuming part of the entire prototyping process. After that step is complete, most of the remaining work will involve refining the cosmetics of the guitar. In June I mostly worked on perfecting the body’s aesthetics and extensively testing methods of securing the module to the guitar.

This is a mock-up body that represents the current iteration of the guitar and module shape. Although it’s still a prototype, I’m making good progress.

My goal is to create a body and modular system that is easily modifiable and compatible with a number of different configurations.

So what’s next?

A brief preview of my plans for July: I’m aiming at debuting the fully functional modular system either later this month or sometime in August. Development has been very promising and I feel that the time for properly showcasing the Phoenix’s capabilities is fast approaching. Once I’ve fully workshopped the modules, I’ll have a better idea on a release date.

Lastly, I want to note that COVID-19 could be an extenuating factor in terms of getting to full production. Unfortunately due to the unpredictable nature of the virus, there may be logistical hurdles that are completely out of my control. However, I remain committed to a 2020 release for the guitar, and we are currently on track to meet that deadline.

In the meantime, updates will come out once a month and should become more frequent when I start approaching full production. My highest priority is making sure the Phoenix lives up to both internal and external expectations and this commitment will absolutely be reflected in the final product. I certainly appreciate everyone’s patience, and please make sure to sign up for our mailing list so you don’t miss out on important updates.
